Weekly Library Night Programming
The Junior League of Greater New Haven will be at McConnaughy Terrace on weekday evenings and occasionally on Saturdays throughout the year to present storytime and engage the kids in fun learning. Actives & Sustainers please contact Kathleen Krolak (McT Committee Chair) at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up or information on your night.
Fall & Spring Fairs
The Community Council also plans two annual Fairs to highlight services and provide activities on a large scale for the residents of McConaughy Terrace. Each Fall and Spring, we host a number of programs and provide an abundance of free giveaways, refreshments, and educational activities for children throughout the neighborhood!
Kids in the Kitchen
The goal of the Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen initiative, which is supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. and its member Leagues, is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. The Junior League of Greater New Haven has participated in the Kids in the Kitchen Program as a part of the weekly McConaughy Terrace programming.
DONE IN A DAY
Fighting Hunger Project
Since 2005, the League has partnered with The Connecticut Food Bank (CFB), a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger by supplying food products and resources to eligible programs throughout Connecticut. To help raise awareness about the issue of hunger and to feed families in need, League members have donated, sorted, and packed non-perishable food for distribution to agencies, participated in the Caravan of Carriages, and walked in the Walk Against Hunger.
This past year, the League has partnered with the Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) to collect and package food items to give out to families for Thanksgiving. CAANH serves 200+ Thanksgiving dinner packages to low income households in New Haven and is the closest food pantry to the McConaughy Terrace community.
TO THE PROM DRESS
Prom Dress Shop
Since 2013, the League has partnered with Project Hope to provide high school juniors and seniors with prom dresses, accessories and shoes for their prom for free! Members work to collect dresses throughout the year and then volunteer their hours at the shop to set up the store, steam dresses and help the girls pick dresses out.
