2021-22 Impact

This year the Junior League of Greater New Haven saw continued challenges with the ongoing pandemic, and a shift in focus areas for the League's volunteer efforts. Both new and previous partners were supported by League volunteers in the following areas:

  • Supporting longtime partner New Haven Reads by collecting more than 125 new and used books for children in need
  • Working to help end Period Poverty in Connecticut by collecting more than 1,200 feminine products for The Diaper Bank of CT.
  • Hosting a virtual and in-person training to learn how to make tie blankets for New Reach, donating them to the organization upon completion
  • and more!

Along with endeavors in the community, high-level training and in-house events were offered for our League members, including:

  • Placing our members’ mental health at the forefront with a Mental Health First Aid Training
  • Providing continuing education and training on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging with Rev. Dr. Terrlyn L. Curry Avery (Rev. Dr. TLC)
  • Honoring those that came before us as we participated in the MLK virtual series in January, as well as the Women United Celebration in February

2020-21 Impact

While COVID impacted how we fulfilled our mission, during the 2020-21 League year, the Junior League of New Haven

  • Collaborated with Save the Sound for a beach clean-up on the Long Island Sound
  • Supported Out of the Darkness through participation in their annual 5K Walk to raise awareness about suicide; and the American Heart Association through participation in their annual Walk and Go Red for Women virtual conference
  • Engaged with the New Haven Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen through the distribution of “grab and go” bags and the Connecticut Food Bank through a virtual healthy cooking lesson and providing healthy recipes to provide to their constituents
  • Reach out to individuals living at Mosaic, a mental and behavioral home in Branford; and veterans with handmade cards
  • Collect books for children and adults by hosting a book drive for New Haven Reads
  • Provide volunteers for a blood drive held by the American Red Cross
  • And more

Along with our endeavors in the community, we offered high-level training and in-house events for our League members, including:

  • Placing our members’ mental health at the forefront with a Zumba mental awareness workout
  • Providing continuing education and training on leadership through series of podcasts and webinars
  • Facilitating training on diversity, equity, and inclusion through various activities, including a virtual book discussion
