Important Information for Your Visit
The Education Department at the Yale University Art Gallery looks forward to your visit. We ask that you carefully read the following information prior to your arrival to ensure a smooth and safe visit.
What will happen when you arrive?
- Please arrive at 11:15. The Gallery opens at 11:00 am Sunday.
- Upon entering the Gallery at the main entrance, located at 1111 Chapel Street, check in at the Information Desk in the Gallery lobby. Large groups will be asked to store all coats, bags, and backpacks in the lockers located on the lower level before entering the galleries.
Things to keep in mind for your visit:
- Eating, drinking, and chewing gum are not allowed in the galleries.
- Be careful not to touch artwork or lean on objects, cases or walls.
- We ask that you not gesture toward a work of art with a pencil or any other object. When discussing an artwork in the galleries, please keep hand gestures at a clear distance from the work itself.
- You may take non-flash photographs, but only of works from the permanent collection.
- Only pencils are allowed within the galleries, and they are available upon request at the Information Desk in the Gallery lobby.
- The Gallery does not have lunch facilities.
How do we teach?
Our tours focus on direct engagement with objects. Each tour involves active conversation and close looking, providing visitors with a range of ways to look at, engage with, and enjoy works of art."
